One of the most important factors for encouraging healthy hair growth is maintaining a healthy scalp. The scalp is often overlooked when it comes to haircare- most shampoos, conditioners and masks, unless specified are designed to care for your hair. When it comes to the scalp, there are many factors that can contribute to hair loss and thinning. Some concerns may be hereditary or through medical conditions- which you should consult with your doctor- however for most clients exploring in-salon solutions have provided results.

Strengthening Your Hair
Really quick, hair is made up of three layers: the cuticle, cortex and medulla. The cuticle is the outer layer which is made of overlapping scales that protect the cortex (inner layer) and the medulla (core). When hair is healthy, these scales lie flat like shingles on a roof top- but as we use products, style our hair, live in a polluted environment or just get older, these scales can start to lift and break exposing the inner layers.
Capixyl TM (Biomemetic Peptide combined with Red Clover Extract): this product is such an amazing ingredient that helps strengthen hair from the inside out and supports hair growth when used each time you wash your hair. It fortifies the scalp to promote fuller, thicker, healthier-looking hair. Try Oribe Serene Scalp Thickening Treatment Spray.
Amino Acids : found in many shampoos and conditioners, amino acids are the building blocks of proteins which make up your hair. Brands like K18 use a sequence of amino acids that travels deep into hair’s core structure to fit in and reconnect broken polypeptide chains (keratin chains) responsible for hair strength and elasticity.
Minoxidil (Rogaine): a popular over the counter treatment minoxidil is medically FDA approved for hair loss and regrowth. The only issue with this product- it can be very irritating to many clients causing itchiness, irritation or dryness. You should consult your doctor before using any type of topical treatments like these as there are other alternatives.
Biotin : a key ingredient in many shampoos, conditioners, treatments and supplements for strengthening the hair and promoting hair and nail growth. Stimulates collagen production to help fortify your scalp- this is a long term solution that can take up to 12 weeks of daily use before you see results with thinning or breakage concerns.
Not one product will be the holy grail to solving your hair loss, dandruff and dry scalp concerns. The conditions come and go and with that you should consider using a combination of these solutions to address your concerns. Be patient, it may take a little time to find what works best for you, but with the right routine and products- your scalp will be thanking you in no time!
